How We Review and Rank Places

Last updated: January 20, 2026

TopRatedPlaces.ai publishes independent editorial guides that rank the best places to go, eat, and experience across cities and industries. This page explains how our rankings are created, what signals we use, how often guides are updated, and what does not influence placement.

What qualifies a place to be reviewed

Before any place appears in a ranking, it must meet basic eligibility standards. These standards help ensure fairness, relevance, and consistency across all guides.

  • The place is currently operating and publicly accessible
  • It has a verifiable location or service area
  • It has sufficient public information to evaluate (hours, offering, presence)
  • It shows consistent activity within the last 12 months

Temporary pop-ups, inactive listings, or venues without reliable public signals are excluded.

How places are ranked

Rankings follow a consistent scoring framework designed to reflect real-world quality and long-term performance, rather than short-term hype.

  • Public reputation (40%) — quality and volume of reviews across major platforms where available
  • Editorial assessment (25%) — clarity of offering, experience design, and consistency indicators
  • Recognition and popularity (20%) — credible mentions, respected lists, and broad visibility
  • Consistency over time (15%) — longevity and sustained customer approval

What does not affect rankings: paid placement, payments to be included, or social media popularity alone.

Editorial review process

Our editorial team researches each guide by reviewing public information, cross-checking multiple sources, and comparing places within the same category and location. Rankings are finalized through editorial review, not automated scoring alone.

How often guides are updated

Every guide displays a “Last updated” date and is reviewed at least once per year. We also publish interim updates when material changes occur, such as:

  • Major openings or closures
  • Significant changes in reputation signals
  • Release of major industry lists or awards

Independence and transparency

TopRatedPlaces does not accept payment to influence rankings. Advertising, affiliate links, or partnerships never determine inclusion or position in a guide.

Sponsored content, if published, is clearly labeled and kept separate from editorial rankings.
